Introduction:

Microsoft Teams has been a game-changer in the world of virtual collaboration, enabling organizations to stay connected and productive in a remote work environment. With the introduction of Microsoft Teams Premium, users can now enjoy an even more enhanced experience with advanced features and functionalities. In this blog post, we will discuss one of the latest features coming to Teams Premium - timeline markers in meeting recordings when the screen was shared - and delve deeper into the benefits of Teams Premium.

Timeline Markers in Meeting Recordings (Teams Premium)

Microsoft Teams Premium users will soon have the ability to see when a screen was shared in a Teams meeting recording and jump directly to that moment. This feature is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 117418 and will be rolled out according to the following schedule:

  • Targeted Release: Mid-April to late April
  • Standard Release: Late April to late May

For users with a Teams Premium license, icons will appear above the video timeline of a Teams meeting recording, indicating when a screen was shared during a meeting. These markers allow users to see who shared a screen, at what time, and easily jump to that part of the meeting.

No action is required from organizations to enable this feature; however, it is recommended to notify Teams Premium users about this change and update any relevant training documentation.

Acquiring Teams Premium Licenses

With the general release of Teams Premium on February 1, 2023, some features previously available in Teams have moved to Teams Premium licenses. To maintain access to these features, organizations will need to purchase and assign Teams Premium licenses to users.

Teams Premium Licensing Considerations

Teams Premium is a per-user, per-month license, and each user who needs access to Teams Premium functionality must have a license assigned. In some cases, specific meeting and event features will provide benefits to all meeting attendees, including guests and external participants. However, assigning Teams Premium licenses is the most effective way to ensure users have access to all the premium features.

Admin Configuration Requirements for Teams Premium

Many Teams Premium features require IT admins to configure the features in the Teams admin center before users can access them. The following list indicates Teams Premium features that require admin configuration:

    • Using end-to-end encryption on meetings up to 50 participants
    • Adding watermarks to meetings
    • Adding sensitivity labels
    • Preventing copy and paste in meeting chats
    • Using organization customized backgrounds
    • Using organization customized Together mode scenes
    • Admin must create the custom Together mode scene
    • Being assigned a custom policy package
    • Using organization customized meeting templates
    • Seeing organization customized branding
    • Using eCDN for Live Events
    • Using RTMP-In
    • Customizing Virtual Appointment lobby rooms with branding

Conclusion:

Microsoft Teams Premium offers a range of advanced features and functionalities that can greatly enhance your organization's collaboration experience. The introduction of timeline markers in meeting recordings when a screen was shared is just one of the many benefits that Teams Premium users can enjoy. With its advanced capabilities and user-friendly features, Teams Premium is a valuable investment for organizations looking to optimize their virtual collaboration efforts.
