Join Direct Guest Join Meetings and Enable SIP/H323 Dialing with Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows

Introduction:

A sleek Surface Hub device running Windows, showcasing the powerful collaboration capabilities of Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows for seamless teamwork.

Prepare for exciting enhancements to your Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows (MTR-W) experience! Starting in early June, you can configure your MTR-W Pro with a Pro license to enable one-to-one calls between your room and SIP/H323 endpoints. In addition, around mid-May, you'll be able to join Direct Guest Join meetings, including BlueJeans, directly from your MTR-W. Let's explore the details of these updates and their impact on your organization.

SIP/H323 Dialing for MTR-W Pro:

  1. What to Expect:

The rollout for SIP/H323 dialing will begin in early June, with completion expected by mid-June. This new feature allows MTR-W Pro users to place and receive calls to and from SIP/H323 endpoints, either within or outside your organization.

  2. Impact on Your Organization:

There's no increased risk associated with this update, as the feature will be disabled by default. You'll only experience the benefits if you enable the feature by running the appropriate PowerShell commands and working with a CVI provider that offers the service.

  3. How to Prepare:

If you choose not to enable SIP/H323 dialing, no action is required. If you want to enable the feature, you'll need to run the necessary PowerShell commands and configure your MTR-W Pro to receive internal or external calls from SIP/H323 endpoints.

  4. Disabling the Feature:

To disable SIP/H323 dialing for an enabled MTR-W Pro, simply run the same PowerShell command as before and explicitly disable the feature.

Join Direct Guest Join Meetings from MTR-W:

  1. What to Expect:

The Preview release for Direct Guest Join meeting integration, including BlueJeans, will start around mid-May. The Standard Release will begin rolling out in late June and is expected to be completed by early July.

  2. Impact on Your Organization:

There's no increased risk for your organization. If you don't make any changes, your MTR-W will continue to function as it does today.

  3. How to Prepare:

During the Preview phase, you can configure your MTR-W to join Direct Guest Join meetings by modifying your room XML settings file. After the Standard Release, you can set up your MTR-W to join Direct Guest Join meetings via the console.

  4. User Communications:

If you enable your MTR-W to join Direct Guest Join meetings, you may want to prepare communications for your users on how to join these meetings. BlueJeans is one of the latest partners to be onboarded to MTR-W for Direct Guest Join functionality.

Conclusion:

These new features, SIP/H323 dialing and Direct Guest Join meeting integration, will provide greater flexibility and an enhanced user experience for MTR-W Pro users. Stay tuned for these updates and get ready to optimize your Teams Rooms on Windows experience.
