Introducing Speaker View in Microsoft Teams: Enhancing Meetings and Presentations

Microsoft Teams is set to enhance your virtual meetings and presentations with the introduction of a new feature: Speaker View. This exciting update will be available in the coming weeks, providing users with an easy way to track the current active speaker, particularly beneficial in large audience scenarios like town halls, trainings, and lectures.

Rollout Schedule

Microsoft has announced the following release schedule for the Speaker View feature:

  • Targeted Release (Public Preview): Rollout begins in early April and is expected to be completed by mid-April.
  • Standard Release: Rollout begins in early May and is expected to be completed by mid-May.

How Speaker View Affects Your Organization

The Speaker View brings several enhancements to Microsoft Teams meetings, including:

  1. Easy tracking of the active speaker: A primary area on the stage is dedicated to focusing on key participants in the meeting.
  2. Higher resolution for active speaker's video: Better visual clarity is ensured with the active speaker's video rendered at a higher resolution.
  3. Equal representation for audio and video participants: Attendees will be equally represented, regardless of whether their video is enabled or disabled.
  4. Inclusive by default: The use of 16:9 tiles allows for the full display of hand gestures and body language.
  5. Predictable experience: Consistent placement of audio and video participants ensures a fluid experience, while shared content seamlessly transitions during presentations.

In addition to the new view option, the button to disable incoming videos will be relocated from the "More" overflow menu to the view switcher where Speaker View is located. Users will be able to select the new view from the view switcher; however, it will not be set as the default view.

Preparing for the Speaker View Feature

No explicit user action is needed to enable or use this feature. However, it is advisable to update your user documentation to inform users of this update, ensuring they can make the most of the new Speaker View in Microsoft Teams.
