Green Screen Feature Rollout Timeline

  • Public Preview: Rollout completion by late March
  • Standard and GCC: Rollout begins in mid-April, with completion expected by late April

User Experience and Known Limitations

  • To enable green screen effect, apply a background effect in Teams meetings
  • Select the correct backdrop color for optimal quality
  • Green screen will automatically disable background blur and Together Mode while being compatible with Presenter modes like Standout, Side-by-Side and Reporter, PowerPoint Live Standout, and background replacement (JPEG/PNG).
  • If the object is too thin, it cannot be properly detected.
  • Transparent or translucent objects cannot produce a good green screen effect.

        How to Enable the Green Screen Feature in Microsoft Teams

        1. Apply a background effect in a Teams meeting and choose the correct backdrop color
        2. Ensure a solid color screen or clean background wall is behind you
        3. Join a meeting and click the "More" icon in the meeting toolbar, then go to "Video effects"
        4. In the "Video effects" panel, navigate to "Green Screen Settings" under the Backgrounds section
        5. Turn on the Green screen toggle button in "Teams settings -> Devices -> Green screen"
        6. Click the backdrop icon and manually pick the backdrop color in the Preview box
        7. Return to your meeting and enjoy the enhanced virtual background experience
